BRIAN BERETTA (2025)
This capstone project from my 2025 Rutgers year explores the intersection of romantic and realistic depictions of violence in media through three distinct narratives, aiming to uncover the common ground which shapes these portrayals. The project consists of three complementary mediums: a video, an interactive website, and an art piece. The video provides a cinematic exploration of romanticized violence in media that offer means of escape from the real world. The interactive website invites viewers to engage with a dynamic representation of these themes through a choice-based game. The art piece visually depicts how violence is often used as a form of control and speaks to a prevalent fantasy of power. By weaving together these different media formats, the project challenges viewers to critically reflect on the common themes of justice, morality, and identity.
Brian Beretta: Just Vengeance is an interactive, choice-based game that follows Brian Beretta through a journey of vengeance. This interactive piece follows the most common story-line of action movies: getting revenge. Commonly used tropes in these movies are introduced into this interactive piece and express either the absurdity or purpose of these tropes.
